COMMUNIQUÉ
From Summer 2020 up until Winter 2023, I designed Mingei’s quarterly newsletter, Communiqué. Communiqué was mailed out to Mingei members to detail current happenings at the Museum. This ranged from a collection highlight, upcoming events, and exhibit information, to so much more. What had started off at 16 pages was later expanded to 24 pages to meet the needs of our audience and to also show what Mingei offered beyond membership.
Pictured above is the front cover of our reopening issue for Communique. The debossed pattern is Mingei’s logo shape repeated and the diecut silhouette coincides with the idea that the Museum is a window to folk art, craft, and design.
Our reopening issue was the longest issue we had produced at 32 pages. It included the usual exhibition information, collection highlight, and upcoming events but also detailed the Museum’s mission, the new additions to the building with the transformation, and how the Museum planned to serve the community through new programs and a first floor open free to the public.
Pictured above is the Fall 2021 issue that followed. We experimented with printing the grid and playing with color instead of debossing.
