FIND YOUR PLACE: CUBBIES + Tree of life

Find Your Place is a name recognition opportunity to aid in Mingei’s capital campaign. This was started while Mingei was still in renovation and because of that, most of the marketing was done through illustration until the building was ready to be photographed. Prospective donors have the option of choosing a cubby or a theater chair.

CUBBIES

Cubby illustration I made for Find Your Place. This was used in e-blasts, social media posts, and our webpage until we were able to take photos of the cubbies.

Above are rough sketches of our cubby animals!

When I was an intern back in 2017, I made the vectors for the first 6 animals. We adapted the vectors into coloring sheets as an activity for students and visitors while the exhibit, Art of the Americas, was on view. Our team wanted to do something fun and colorful for the cubbies so I suggested expanding on these animals, especially since we had positive feedback on the coloring sheets before.

TREE OF LIFE

Matching Tree of Life illustration I made for Find Your Place. This was used in e-blasts, social media posts, and our webpage until our exhibition designer created the tree structure and had lasercut the ornaments.

The ornament + tree design were all done by our Spring 2021 intern, Vivian Ortiz. The construction of the tree was done by Mingei’s exhibition designer, Jerry Maloney. My role in this project was communicating with Vivian on a theme for the ornaments and overseeing how the vectors progressed from ideation to final production. I did small edits on the ornaments to unify them together and choosing what would be engraved or lasercut, but I wanted to make sure that the final outcome stayed as close as possible to Vivian’s vision.

If you wondered who drilled all the ornaments into the tree, it was me!
